THE BEST OF SPAIN: SAN SEBASTIAN

On the southern coast of the Bay of Biscay, the city San Sebastian is one of my favorites. In my opinion, San Sebastian has got it all. The pitoresque shoreline provides a wide spread beach right next to the city centre. The feeling that you can sunbathe right next to major historical buildings, shops and churches is quite unique!.San Sebastian never bores me! After a day sunbathing on the beach, you can lose yourself in the many many boutiques, shops, churches, buildings or architecture the city has to offer. And then the FOOD! Tapas, fish, salads....... Yum!

What to do?
1. Surfboards and bodyboards can be rented at Zurriola beach, which is one of the two main beaches. Zurriola beach is a wonderfull surf beach. The surf shop at the beach offers surf lessons and you can hire your surfboard, body board and wetsuit there as well.
2. Shopping. The stylish city is stuffed with high-end shops. The old part of the town, La Parte Vieja, had got a lot of small boutiques filled with quirky designer gear. For us dutchies, don't forget to visit the Zara! The Zara is a lot cheaper then in Holland, so save some money!
3. Hiking. Hiking in a city? Yeah, sure! I said San Sebastian had it all, right? For a short hike, you should visit the statue of Christ on top of the mountain between the beaches.
4. Kayak. kayaks can be hired on Ondaretta beach. 7€/h, enjoy!
5. Go waterskiing in the La Conda Bay!
6. Eat! The Basque cuisine is a-ma-zing! Although tapas were officialy invented in Andalicia. they became perfected in San Sebastian. A walk trough the city (old town), will show you why. Go on and have a glass of wine with one tapa in a bar, and then move on to the next one! Besides tapas, there are amazing seafood restaurants as well, and I also ate a wonderful ceasar salad.....

LONDON - SHOREDITCH

Well, when you are going to London you have to visit Shoreditch. Many people only think of West End, Oxford street and the London Eye. If you have had enough of the luxury brands and the big fashion chains like Topshop, H&M, Mango, Zara.... you should definitely go to Shoreditch, which provides endless hours of retail fun.

Boxpark is thé number one expample of a new retail experience. Boxpark is founded by Boxfresh entrepreneur Roger Wade and installed in the late 2011. The shipping containers underneath the elevated Shoreditch High Street Overground station are stripped and refitted to create unique, low cost pop-up stores. Boxpark is filled with a mix of fashion and lifestyle brands, galleries, cafés and restaurants and it's a living community of brands packed with talent and innovation to put fashion back on the street.

You should also definitely vist the Aubin & Wills concept store. The store will function as a social hot spot where you can meet and interact with like-minded indiviudals, but also a place to be entertained. For example, watch a movie in the Aubin Cinema, a intimate 47-seat theatre wih velvet chairs and sofas. The theatre also is availabe for private hires. You can also take a look at The Galery on the first floor.

Shoreditch is the place to go if you like vintage shops, small boutiques, the latest trends, art, and everyhtinh what's new and exciting.
But if you don't like shopping you can walk around Shoreditch too, because I am sure you will love the art work on the streets.

LONDON - THE CANVAS CAFE

London Baby! This month I spend a weekend in London and I loved it! I will share the highlights of my trip, this post; The Canvas Cafe & Shoreditch. Enjoy!

The Canvas Cafe
The Canvas Cafe is a cafe and creative venue just off Brick Lane in East London. They serve homemade food, host workshops and art events in confidence and self-esteem. You can also write on their walls! Seriously, how cool is that!

What people think and feel really matters to the Canvas Cafe, and that's why they've made their walls a blank canvas for your thoughts, ideas and stories. Online comments can be transitory, but when you write on walls your words take on a deeper meaning, and a lasting importance. You also become a part of an ever-evolving piece of live art. And if writing's not your thing, pull up a chair and lose yourself in the world of others..... You won't need a book!

Also the menu at the Canvas cafe is great: the menu has been designed to make you feel good- wholesome but hearty food hat both stimulates the taste buds and fuels your body for the rest of the day. We ate sandwitches and they were amazing! The bread was delicious, so I couldn't stop myself asking them where they got it. It turned out the bread comes from social enterprise bakery The Dusty Knuckle, who are based in Dalston, East London.

Can it get any better? Sure! The canvas cafe is also a venue for live theatre, music, comedy and cabaret and their basement space can be used to host conferences, meetings, network events, training, away days, meet ups fitness and well being classes, fairs, exhibitions and parties, as well as theathre shows, live music or film screenings.
